Oven-Ready Lasagna with Lamb Bolognese

Ingredients

For the Lamb Bolognese:

2 tbsp olive oil
1 small onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 carrot, finely diced
1 celery stalk, finely diced
1 lb ground lamb
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp dried basil
½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
¼ cup tomato paste
½ cup red wine (or beef broth)
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

For the Ricotta Mixture:

1 ¾ cups ricotta cheese
1 egg
½ cup parmesan cheese, grated
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp black pepper

Additional Ingredients:

2 cups mozzarella, shredded

Method

Step 1

Prepare the Lamb Bolognese: Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, carrot, celery and sauté for 5 minutes. Add ground lamb and brown, breaking apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat if needed. Stir in oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Add tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Pour in wine (or broth) and simmer for 2 minutes. Stir in crushed tomatoes, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 2

Prepare the Ricotta Mixture: In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, parmesan, salt and pepper until smooth.

Step 3

Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat oven to 375°F. Spread a thin layer of lamb Bolognese at the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Layer 3 sheets of Barilla Oven-Ready Lasagna on top. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the pasta, followed by 1/3 of the lamb Bolognese, and 1/3 of the mozzarella. Repeat twice, finishing the last layer of mozzarella and grated parmesan.

Step 4

Bake the Lasagna: Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 5 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

Step 5

Rest & Serve.
